Resilience
Format: Seminar, lecture or talk
Instructor: Lucas del Rio
No matter how strong we feel or how positive we are, one thing is inevitable: we will all face challenging, difficult, complex situations that will truly test us.
I define resilience as the ability to learn and grow from difficulties. Whether we can grow from each experience depends fundamentally on our inner resources.
As a choreographer and dancer, I am aware of how little emphasis is placed during our formative years and careers on what nurtures/cultivates our inner resources. Compensating for this lack has been a long and challenging process. My resilience journey has been marked by several personal crises, numerous injuries, and some surgeries.
“Resilience is not a line you cross over, it’s a journey we take every single day.”
My most important work in this world is not my art. My most important work is cultivating my inner resources, my inner world. What is inside will be expressed outwardly. If my inner world is poor, I will express that through my art—and my health will suffer as well.
I offer an exploration of some topics that have played a crucial role in my resilience journey:
- Awareness: the basis for resilience.
- Developing a growth mindset.
- Understanding fear
- The Concept of “Hard-Work” and “Heart-Work”.
- Body Awareness: What it might mean to “listen to your body”.
- The crucial role of Balance: Deepening our understanding of life’s polarity and of the concept of “yin and yang“.
- Authenticity: Recognizing and distinguishing between the superficial and the profound, between appearance and essence (further exploration: Core Values, the topic of Comparison, and the concepts of “Comparative Competition” and “Collaborative Competition”).
- Purpose
- Faith and Trust
- Inspiring Stories: People and powerful narratives to gradually discover our potential — what is and what could be.
I combine theoretical input with practical physical exercises that can help integrate and cultivate some of the learnings in our daily lives.
This exploration can be offered in various formats, such as a seminar, course, or talk. The specific format can be tailored to meet the needs of those interested and can be discussed further.
